As a teacher of Deaf and hard of hearing high school students, I bear witness of the destruction and life-long damages of denying these students their first and natural language, American Sign Language. We deny them of their personal and political power to effectively function in our society. Shame!

I am deaf and mainstreamed but did not learn sign until I was 17. ASL would have helped with educational access for interpreters in my school. I hope future deaf children have full access.
