EHDI Conference 2011
The Deaf Bilingual Coalition is gearing up once again to attend and participate at the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Conference to be held in Atlanta, Georgia on Feb. 21-22nd. The DBC’s presentation, “Jumpstart Your ASL”, has been accepted as a breakout session workshop. The DBC will also have an exhibit booth at the conference. The DBC thanks DawnSignPress for its generous support!
Over the past three years, the Deaf Bilingual Coalition has worked hard to bring together stakeholders at the conference who advocate for bilingualism through ASL and English.
- The primary goal is to build professional awareness to the importance of ASL and English in Deaf children’s language acquisition.
- Another goal is to build awareness to the need to increase Deaf professional involvement and employment into every level of the Early Intervention system. While the awareness building process is never as fast moving as we would like it to be related to making systematic changes on a national level, we are making forward strides alongside other key organizations involved in Deaf Education and Early Intervention.
This past year, the DBC has been working in collaboration with other professional educators and stakeholders from across the nation to create a new section, soon to be released, for the EHDI E-Book Series called “Deaf Community Support for Families: The Best of Partnerships”. Once it is released, you can view it at: http://www.infanthearing.org/ehdi-ebook/index.htm.

Please Donate Today
The year 2010 was a very busy and productive year for the DBC . It was a record year of meeting and presenting to a variety of constituents ranging from the Governor’s Council on Disabilities, families, and educators in Alaska, EHDI conference attendees, the ASL/English Early Childhood Education Summit at Gallaudet University, the Montana Family Learning Conference, the National Association of the Deaf Convention, the Deaf Family Literacy Council, just to name a few.
From these volunteer efforts, we are making a difference in communities across the nation, building greater unity in advocating for Deaf children’s language rights to ASL and English.
